Investment casting also called lost wax or precision casting, it is one of the most profitable manufacturing processes in this day and age. The investment castings involve creating an original wax pattern, coating layers of plaster, and building successive layers. Once wax patterns are created, then melted material is poured into the mold, creating an exact duplicate of the desired part.
There are two main investment casting methods, silica sol investment and water glass investment. The silica sol investment casting costs more but has a better surface than the water glass method.
Investment casting process is:
Tooling and Pattern Making → Pattern Assembly → Dipping and Coating → Waxing and Firing → Casting → Cooling → Shell Removal → Cut Off → Finishing → Testing and Inspection → Packing and Shipping.
